Star Parties:
- Summer observing sessions: Star parties will be held on the following evenings in Tupper Lake. Telescope setup begins at 9:00 pm, with observing as soon as it is dark enough. Rain dates as indicated. Note: The observing session on July 23rd will follow the presentation by David Levy at the Wild Center.
- Friday, July 10th (Rain date: Saturday, July 11th): Little Wolf Beach (map)
- Thursday, July 23rd (No rain date): The Wild Center (map & directions)
- Thursday, August 6th (No rain date): Little Wolf Beach (map)
- Friday, August 21st (Rain date: Saturday, August 22nd): Little Wolf Beach (map)
- August 6th is the APO's second annual "Telescope Revival Night". Dig that old telescope of yours out of the closet, or the new one you got for Christmas, and bring it down to the beach where members of the APO will be on hand to help you get the most out of it.
Presentations:
Thursday, July 23rd: The APO will host famed comet hunter David Levy at the Wild Center (directions) at 6:00 pm. Levy will present a lecture and will hold a book signing. Note that seating is limited, and no books will be available for sale at the event. Copies to be autographed must be pre-purchased and brought to the lecture. Saturday, August 8th: APO board member and St. Lawrence University astronomer Jeffrey Miller will hold an observing session at Higley Flow State Park, Colton NY, at the beach pavilion (info & directions) at 9:00 pm. If it's cloudy, a presentation entitled "The Perseid Meteor Shower: The Tears of St. Lawrence" will be given. The event is free to campers & the public.
